The Shella is one of HEIMAT ATLANTICA’s most emblematic creations, bringing together two artisanal traditions from the Atlantic coasts of Portugal and Galicia.
Each basket is woven by hand in Portugal using traditional reed-weaving techniques. In Galicia, it is adorned with delicate shell flowers handembroidered by third-generation colareiras from O Grove, women who preserve a centuries-old tradition of gathering shells along the coast and transforming them, one by one, into intricate floral compositions.
Each flower is shaped and embroidered entirely by hand. Subtle variations in the shells, their tones and forms are part of the character of every piece, making each Shella singular.
Today, the Shella has become one of our most sought-after creations, with clients around the world joining our waiting list each season. A piece whose rarity comes not from artificial scarcity, but simply from the number of bags that human hands can make.
A Shella is created individually after it has been chosen. Approximately four weeks of artisanal work are required to complete each piece, respecting the natural pace of the materials and the hands that work with them.
Production is inherently limited. Not by design, but by the availability of the shells, the rhythm of the artisans and the time required by these traditional techniques.
There is no overproduction and no industrial process to accelerate its making. Each Shella is made for one client, never before her order.
An object shaped by the Atlantic, by generations of knowledge and, above all, by time.

My name is Montserrat, I founded HEIMAT ATLANTICA in 2016 when I was living in Paris. HEIMAT is a German word that denotes the special bond a human being has with their origins. After living abroad for more than 15 years, I felt a deep need of communicating about my local identity and share this incredible crafts with the world.
HEIMAT ATLANTICA is not just about creating a label, it is a project related with BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR: from my point of view, fashion must have a social & cultural responsability. Thus, HEIMAT ATLANTICA was born with the aim to PROTECT AND VALORIZE the beautiful popular crafts from the Atlantic coast, Spain and Portugal, working in a direct and closest way with the artisans in order to create a REAL VALUE for them.

In 2016, I designed and made the bag for myself, it came up in a very intuitive way; I wanted a talisman to help me find TRUE LOVE and then people stopped me on the streets in Paris to ask where I had bought it.
The porcelain embellishments are lucky charms that serve different purposes: protection of happiness, material possessions, honor, love … In that sense whether you believe in Magic or not, these charms have a universal significance.
